Dr. Thomas V. Whinery

Personal Philosophy

Dr. Whinery, a fourth-generation dentist, graduated from the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston in 1982. Upon graduation, he began his 27-year dental practice in Arlington, Texas. Dr. Whinery is past president of the Texas Academy of Dental Practice Administration and Arlington Dental Study Club. He has served on the Tarrant County Forensic Identification Team. He is a 20-year member of Grace Presbyterian Church and a 10-year member of the College of Elders.

A dental missionary with Serving Him Ministries, Dr. Whinery's passion is leading dental teams to Romania each year. He also participates with Mission Arlington's Give Kids a Smile program by providing dentistry to students working on their GED at the Venture School in AISD. He also assists the HOSA class at Lamar High School by hosting a student every Tuesday.

Today the term "Cosmetic Dentistry" is in vogue; however, Dr. Whinery believes the phrase is incomplete. Dr. Whinery strives earnestly to perform "Comprehensive Restorative Dentistry". Comprehensive dentistry is defined as the harmonious integration of periodontal health (gum and bone), tooth integrity (decay, fractures, and wear), occlusion (stability of the bite, muscles and joints), and cosmetics by restoring natural beauty. Foundational to this dental relationship is a thorough examination of the above-mentioned systems, while listening to a patient wants, values, and dental history. Together the patient and Dr. Whinery formulate a plan to achieve the patient's long-term goals. This relationship is couched in an atmosphere of mutual respect and care between the patient, staff, and Dr. Whinery.

Dr. Whinery and his wife Lisa were married in 1979 and are blessed with two wonderful daughters. Kate is a Middle School teacher in Buda Tx. while Claire is 16 and a "volleyball gal". Both have their dad wrapped around their fingers. Oh well!
